Who this service is for
Many couples sponsoring from Azerbaijan are apart while the file is prepared. Others already live together in Canada and want to file from here.
First confirm which relationship category applies to you. For the whole program, read our guide to spousal sponsorship in Canada.
Sponsors whose partner is in Azerbaijan
Your partner files from abroad in the Family Class. We line up the Azerbaijani records and forms so they tell the same story.
Couples living together in Canada
Read about inland and outland sponsorship before choosing. We weigh your partner's status and travel needs against each option.
Partners with military or government service
IRCC asks for IMM 5546 from anyone who served in the military or police, or held a high-ranking government post. We prepare it with every page of the military booklet.
What Azerbaijani Spousal Sponsorship Application Support Includes
Every file starts with a written agreement. For a partner in Azerbaijan, the work usually covers these steps.
01
Review eligibility and choose the application route
Review both partners’ circumstances, previous sponsorships and immigration history. Compare inland and outland options, including how travel plans affect the choice.
02
Organize your relationship evidence
Build a clear relationship timeline using records of your life together. Identify missing periods and explain circumstances the documents do not show.
03
Prepare forms and supporting documents
Prepare forms such as IMM 1344 and IMM 5532. Use our spousal sponsorship document checklist to organize your records. Check civil records, translations and country-specific document requirements.
04
Check dates and details across the file
Compare relationship dates with address histories, travel records and supporting documents. Resolve differences before they become conflicting answers in your application.
05
Prepare the application for submission
Review the completed application with you and check the required signatures and uploads. You personally complete the declarations IRCC requires you to sign.
06
Handle agreed follow-up with IRCC
Understand document requests and prepare responses within their deadlines. Interview preparation or additional applications can be discussed when relevant to your file.

Document issues we check before submission
An Azerbaijani file has to agree across forms and records, down to small details. We look for mismatches before submission.
Our spousal sponsorship document checklist lists the core documents for every file.
Transliterated names that drift
Latin, Cyrillic and older spellings can differ across a passport, a certificate and a translation. We tie each version to its source document.
Military booklet pages left out
IRCC wants every page of the military booklet when IMM 5546 applies, including blank ones. We count the pages before upload.
A police certificate scanned from a copy
IRCC requires colour scans of the original police certificate, and certified copies lead to a rejected application. We check what was scanned before it goes in.
Azerbaijani Documents at a Glance
This table follows IRCC's current instructions for a partner living in Azerbaijan. Generate your own application package first, because it controls the final list.
| Document | Where it comes from | Authentication | Translation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marriage certificate | The civil registry office that registered the marriage | IRCC's Azerbaijan instructions list no apostille step | Needed if not in English or French, stamps included |
| Police certificate | Ministry of Interior, or an Azerbaijani embassy abroad | Scan the original in colour; certified copies are rejected | Accredited translation if not in English or French |
| IMM 5562 travel history | IRCC digital form completed by each adult on the application | Not applicable | Completed in English or French |
| IMM 5546 military service details | IRCC form, when military, police or high-ranking government service applies | Include every military booklet page, blanks too | Booklet pages translated if not in English or French |
| Divorce record, if married before | The court or registry that finalized the divorce | IRCC's Azerbaijan instructions list no apostille step | Needed if not in English or French |
Azerbaijani Spousal Sponsorship Fees and Processing Times
Government fees do not change with your partner's country. A spouse with no dependent children costs $1,260 in IRCC fees, and biometrics add $85 if required. Our spouse sponsorship fees guide breaks down each item.
| Government fee | Amount (CAD) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship and processing fees | $660 | Covers the sponsorship application and your partner's permanent residence processing |
| Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) | $600 | Due before your partner becomes a permanent resident; refunded if the application is withdrawn or refused |
| Biometrics | $85 | Per person if required; $170 maximum for a family applying together |
| Each dependent child | $180 | Added for every dependent child included in the application |
| Spouse-only total with biometrics | $1,345 | Sponsorship, processing, RPRF and one biometrics fee |
IRCC publishes separate estimates for inland and outland files, and Quebec files follow their own timeline. Look up the current figure in the official processing-times tool before booking flights or giving notice at work.
Missing IMM 5546 pages or a copied police certificate can send the file back, which costs more time than any queue. Professional fees are separate and posted on our fees page.
Clear fees before you retain us
Book a consultation first, then decide whether to retain us. Your written agreement names the professional fee and which Azerbaijani records it covers.
IRCC fees, medical exams, translations and Azerbaijani certificate costs are separate. Professional prices are on our fee schedule before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I obtain a police clearance certificate in Azerbaijan?
IRCC names the police certificate issued by the Ministry of Interior. In Azerbaijan, your partner applies to the Ministry directly. From abroad, the consular section of the nearest Azerbaijani embassy takes the application. Expect to give your full name, date and place of birth, citizenship, address and identity document details. Upload a colour scan of the original, never a certified copy.
How do I sponsor my spouse to come to Canada?
You file two applications together: your sponsorship and your partner's permanent residence application. Once eligibility is confirmed, pick the inland or outland route. The package for a partner living in Azerbaijan then adds IMM 5562 and, where it applies, IMM 5546. Pay the fees and submit through the PR Portal.
What are the requirements for a marriage certificate for IRCC applications?
IRCC needs proof the marriage was legally registered with the government where it took place. A marriage licence or a ceremony record is not enough. For a marriage registered in Azerbaijan, submit the civil registration certificate with a full English or French translation. Keep the original, because an officer can ask to see it.
Can my spouse come to Canada while waiting for the spousal sponsorship visa?
Often, yes, but it is not automatic. Azerbaijani citizens need a visitor visa, and the officer must be satisfied your partner will leave when the visit ends. Canada's dual intent rule lets a visitor also have a permanent residence application in process. If you already live together in Canada, compare the inland route instead.
Who needs a police certificate IRCC?
Your partner needs one, and so does every family member on the application who is 18 or older. It covers every country where they lived six months or more in a row since turning 18. For a partner living in Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani certificate must be issued within six months before you submit. Time spent in Canada needs no certificate.
