Who this service is for
Canadian sponsors can visit Georgia easily, so many couples spend long stretches together there. Others are already living in Canada.
Settle the relationship category before collecting documents. For the full program, see our spousal sponsorship in Canada breakdown.
Sponsors with a partner in Georgia
The outland Family Class route is usual. We plan the Certificate of Conviction and the two IRCC forms first.
Couples living in Canada
Before choosing, compare inland and outland sponsorship for your situation. Status and travel plans usually decide it.
Partners with military or government service
Georgian applicants with military, police or senior government service complete IMM 5546. Every page of the military booklet goes with it.
What Georgian Spousal Sponsorship Application Support Includes
Our written agreement fixes what we do. For a Georgian partner, the work usually includes these steps.
01
Review eligibility and choose the application route
Review both partners’ circumstances, previous sponsorships and immigration history. Compare inland and outland options, including how travel plans affect the choice.
02
Organize your relationship evidence
Build a clear relationship timeline using records of your life together. Identify missing periods and explain circumstances the documents do not show.
03
Prepare forms and supporting documents
Prepare forms such as IMM 1344 and IMM 5532. Use our spousal sponsorship document checklist to organize your records. Check civil records, translations and country-specific document requirements.
04
Check dates and details across the file
Compare relationship dates with address histories, travel records and supporting documents. Resolve differences before they become conflicting answers in your application.
05
Prepare the application for submission
Review the completed application with you and check the required signatures and uploads. You personally complete the declarations IRCC requires you to sign.
06

Understand document requests and prepare responses within their deadlines. Interview preparation or additional applications can be discussed when relevant to your file.

Documents every file shares are gathered in our spousal sponsorship document checklist.
Travel history with gaps
Couples who visit often generate many trips, and IMM 5562 must list them accurately. We compare every date with the passports.
An incomplete military booklet
When IMM 5546 applies, IRCC expects the complete military booklet. We check that blank pages were scanned too.
Spellings that shift in translation
Georgian names can be romanized in several ways. We make sure the translations match the passport spelling.

Georgian Spousal Sponsorship Fees and Processing Times
IRCC does not vary its fees by nationality. A spouse with no dependent children means $1,260 in government fees, plus $85 for biometrics when requested. You'll find each item in our spouse sponsorship fees guide.
| Government fee | Amount (CAD) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship and processing fees | $660 | Covers the sponsorship application and your partner's permanent residence processing |
| Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) | $600 | Due before your partner becomes a permanent resident; refunded if the application is withdrawn or refused |
| Biometrics | $85 | Per person if required; $170 maximum for a family applying together |
| Each dependent child | $180 | Added for every dependent child included in the application |
| Spouse-only total with biometrics | $1,345 | Sponsorship, processing, RPRF and one biometrics fee |
Inland cases, outland cases and Quebec cases each have their own estimate, and the figures change. The processing-times tool gives today's figure.
Requesting the Certificate of Conviction from outside Georgia takes planning, so we begin it early. The fees page lists our professional fees.

Frequently Asked Questions
How to get a police clearance certificate in Georgia?
IRCC names the Certificate of Conviction from Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs. In Georgia, apply in person or by mail through the Ministry's Service Agency. From abroad, write to the Ministry's Information Centre, or authorize a relative or friend in Georgia to apply. Fees apply, and IRCC needs a colour scan of the original.
Do Canadians need a visa for Georgia country?
No tourist visa is needed, as Global Affairs Canada confirms in its travel advice for Georgia. Check that page again before each trip, since entry rules can change. Visits count as relationship evidence in a sponsorship. Keep tickets and passport stamps, because the dates must match IMM 5532 and IMM 5562.
How long can Canadians stay in Georgia?
Global Affairs Canada says Canadians can stay up to 365 days without a tourist visa. Long stays together help show a genuine relationship, but they also create travel entries to report. If you lived together in Georgia for a year, the common-law category may also apply to you.
How much is a 2 year visa for Canada?
Canada does not sell a set two-year visa. A visitor visa costs $100, plus $85 for biometrics if required. The officer decides between single and multiple entry and sets the validity. That can run up to ten years, or until the passport or biometrics expire. Georgian citizens need this visa to visit.
Can a girlfriend sponsor her boyfriend in Canada?
Not as a boyfriend or girlfriend alone. IRCC sponsors spouses, common-law partners and conjugal partners. Common-law means living together continuously for at least 12 months. A conjugal relationship lasts at least a year while a serious barrier prevents living together or marrying. Otherwise, marrying first is the usual step. Long stays together in Georgia can count toward the common-law year.
