Who this service is for

Some sponsors married in India and are waiting to bring their partner over. Others are already together in Canada while the paperwork catches up.

Check the relationship category that fits your situation first. Our guide to spousal sponsorship in Canada covers how the program works overall.

Sponsors whose partner lives in India

The outland Family Class route usually fits. We collect the Indian civil records and police clearance certificate and test them against your forms.

Partners already in Canada with you

See how inland and outland sponsorship differ before you file. Your partner's current status often decides which route makes sense.

Either partner divorced in India

IRCC's India instructions ask for the full divorce petition, the judgment and the final decree. We make sure all three are in the file.

What Indian Spousal Sponsorship Application Support Includes

Your written agreement defines the work. An Indian file typically includes the steps below.

01
Review eligibility and choose the application route

Review both partners’ circumstances, previous sponsorships and immigration history. Compare inland and outland options, including how travel plans affect the choice.

02
Organize your relationship evidence

Build a clear relationship timeline using records of your life together. Identify missing periods and explain circumstances the documents do not show.

03
Prepare forms and supporting documents

Prepare forms such as IMM 1344 and IMM 5532. Use our spousal sponsorship document checklist to organize your records. Check civil records, translations and country-specific document requirements.

04
Check dates and details across the file

Compare relationship dates with address histories, travel records and supporting documents. Resolve differences before they become conflicting answers in your application.

05
Prepare the application for submission

Review the completed application with you and check the required signatures and uploads. You personally complete the declarations IRCC requires you to sign.

06
Handle agreed follow-up with IRCC

Understand document requests and prepare responses within their deadlines. Interview preparation or additional applications can be discussed when relevant to your file.

Document issues we check before submission

IRCC's India instructions add specific rules for civil records. We check each record against them before submission.

Start with our spousal sponsorship document checklist for the documents every file needs.

A PCC with a limited search

IRCC rejects police clearance certificates restricted to one jurisdiction or time period. We check the wording before your partner uploads it.

A decree without the petition and judgment

An Indian divorce needs all three court documents in IRCC's instructions. We ask for the missing pieces early, while the court file is easy to reach.

Names written differently across records

Spellings, initials and surname order often shift between a passport, a marriage certificate and school records. We explain each difference in writing.

Indian Spousal Sponsorship Fees and Processing Times

Your partner's country does not change IRCC's charges. Sponsoring a spouse with no children costs $1,260 in government fees, with $85 more for biometrics where required. The spouse sponsorship fees guide explains what each fee pays for.

IRCC government fees for sponsoring a partner from India, 2026 (CAD)
Government feeAmount (CAD)What it covers
Sponsorship and processing fees$660Covers the sponsorship application and your partner's permanent residence processing
Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF)$600Due before your partner becomes a permanent resident; refunded if the application is withdrawn or refused

Each dependent child$180Added for every dependent child included in the application
Spouse-only total with biometrics$1,345Sponsorship, processing, RPRF and one biometrics fee

Inland, outland and Quebec files each carry their own estimate, and the numbers move. Check the IRCC processing-times tool on the day you plan anything around a date.

An incomplete divorce record or the wrong type of PCC can bring the whole file back to you. Our professional fees are listed separately on the fees page.

Clear fees before you retain us

Your first step is a consultation, not a contract. If you retain us, the written agreement states the fee and the Indian documents in scope.

IRCC charges, medical exams, translations and fees for Indian certificates are paid on top. Our fee schedule lists professional prices in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an Indian marriage certificate valid in Canada?

A marriage legally performed in India is usually valid in Canada without registering it here. IRCC still needs proof the marriage was registered with the Indian government, not only a religious ceremony record. If the marriage was never registered, arrange that before you apply. Upload the registration certificate with a translation of any part not in English or French.

Can I do PCC from India for Canada PR?

Yes. IRCC's India page accepts a Police Clearance Certificate from several issuers. These are a district police station, a passport office, an Indian embassy or consulate, or a BLS International centre. A character certificate is not accepted. Neither is a PCC limited to one jurisdiction or time period. Formats differ by issuer, so check the wording before you upload.

How to get police clearance in Canada from India?

If your partner is already in Canada, the Indian PCC is requested from here through the Indian consulate network or BLS International. India then counts as a former country of residence. The certificate must be dated after your partner's last stay there of six months or more. Keep the original and upload a colour scan.

How long is a police clearance certificate valid for Canadian immigration from India?

IRCC does not set one expiry date. If your partner lives in India when you apply, the PCC must be dated no more than six months before you apply. If they have left India, it must be dated after their last six-month stay there. IRCC can still ask for an updated certificate while the file is in processing.

Which documents are required for a spouse visa in Canada?

A spousal sponsorship needs identity documents, civil records, relationship proof, police certificates and forms such as IMM 5532. For a partner in India, IRCC adds IMM 5562 travel history for each adult. A divorce granted in India needs the petition, judgment and final decree. Your personalized checklist remains the final word on what to include.
