Who this service is for

Some Iranian partners are in Iran, some in a third country, and some already in Canada. The police certificate route in particular depends on where they are.

Confirm your relationship category before you begin. We explain the wider program on our spousal sponsorship in Canada page for sponsors.

Sponsors with a partner in Iran

The Family Class, filed from outside Canada, is the usual path. We assemble the Shenas Nameh, passport pages and military card from the start.

Iranian partners already in Canada

We compare inland and outland sponsorship carefully. Iranians in Canada also face a different police certificate route.

Couples married outside Iran

If a marriage abroad is not recorded in the Shenas Nameh, IRCC wants the foreign certificate and a sworn affidavit explaining why.

What Iranian Spousal Sponsorship Application Support Includes

The written agreement describes our work in full. An Iranian file typically moves through these steps.

01
Review eligibility and choose the application route

Review both partners’ circumstances, previous sponsorships and immigration history. Compare inland and outland options, including how travel plans affect the choice.

02
Organize your relationship evidence

Build a clear relationship timeline using records of your life together. Identify missing periods and explain circumstances the documents do not show.

03
Prepare forms and supporting documents

Prepare forms such as IMM 1344 and IMM 5532. Use our spousal sponsorship document checklist to organize your records. Check civil records, translations and country-specific document requirements.

04
Check dates and details across the file

Compare relationship dates with address histories, travel records and supporting documents. Resolve differences before they become conflicting answers in your application.

05
Prepare the application for submission

Review the completed application with you and check the required signatures and uploads. You personally complete the declarations IRCC requires you to sign.

06
Handle agreed follow-up with IRCC

Understand document requests and prepare responses within their deadlines. Interview preparation or additional applications can be discussed when relevant to your file.

Document issues we check before submission

Iranian files have more identity items than most, and each must agree with the others. We compare them line by line.

Requirements that apply to every file are on our spousal sponsorship document checklist.

Fewer than ten passport pages

IRCC asks for the first ten pages of each Iranian passport, including the page with the validity dates. We check the count.

A marriage abroad missing from the Shenas Nameh

Without the foreign certificate and a sworn affidavit, the gap looks unexplained. We prepare both.

Dates that differ between calendars

Iranian records use the Solar Hijri calendar, while IRCC forms use the Gregorian one. We convert and cross-check every date.

Iranian Spousal Sponsorship Fees and Processing Times

IRCC's government fees are the same for an Iranian partner. IRCC collects $1,260 to sponsor a spouse who has no children, and biometrics add $85 where required. The spouse sponsorship fees guide breaks it down.

Inland, outland and Quebec files have their own estimates, published separately by IRCC. For the latest figure, use the official processing-times tool.

Iran's police certificate route depends on where your partner lives, so we settle it early. Professional fees are published on our fees page.

We meet for a consultation before any decision. Once retained, we sign a written agreement that states the fee and the Iranian documents in scope.

IRCC fees, the medical exam, translations and Iranian certificate costs are billed separately. You can check professional prices before booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Iranians immigrate to Canada?

Yes. An Iranian spouse or partner can be sponsored under the ordinary family rules. IRCC's Iran list adds document items. These are the first ten pages of each passport, Shenas Nameh copies and the principal applicant's military service or exemption card. Adults also complete IMM 5562, and IMM 5546 applies where there was service.

Can Iranian citizens travel to Canada?

Yes, with a visitor visa, since Iran is on IRCC's visa-required list. A sponsorship in process does not rule out a visit, because Canadian immigration law lets a visitor also intend to immigrate. Your partner still has to convince the officer they will leave when the authorized stay ends.

Who can translate documents for immigration in Canada?

Under guide IMM 5289, a person fluent in both languages or a Canadian certified translator can translate. Anyone other than a Canadian certified translator must swear an affidavit before a notary or commissioner of oaths. You and your relatives cannot translate your own documents. For Persian records such as the Shenas Nameh, attach a certified copy of each original.

Is common-law 12 months or 3 years?

For Canadian immigration, it is 12 months. IRCC requires at least one year of continuous cohabitation, with only short, temporary absences. Longer periods you may have seen come from other laws, not from IRCC's definition. A year together in Iran or elsewhere can qualify if you can document it.

Which is better, inland or outland spousal sponsorship?

Neither is better in general. Outland suits a partner living abroad or planning to travel, and IRCC says to use it if you would appeal a refusal. Inland suits a partner already sharing your home in Canada with valid status, and it may allow an open work permit. Leaving Canada during inland processing risks re-entry, especially for visa-required Iranians.
