Sponsor Your Spouse from Mexico to Canada
Sponsor Your Spouse from Mexico to Canada with Registro Civil copies certified the way IRCC's Mexico instructions require. Mexico also runs its police certificate differently, after you apply, so we plan for that step from day one. A licensed consultant prepares your file and stays your point of contact.

Who this service is for
Some partners are still in Mexico, while other couples already share a home in Canada. IRCC's Mexico rules apply to the records either way.
Work out your relationship category first. The whole process is set out in our spousal sponsorship in Canada resource.
Sponsors whose partner lives in Mexico
Outland sponsorship in the Family Class is the usual route. We order certified Registro Civil copies before anything is uploaded.
Couples together in Canada
Look at inland and outland sponsorship before committing. Your partner's status and plans to travel often decide it.
Partners divorced in Mexico
IRCC wants both the Registro Civil divorce certificate and the family judge's court order. We check that both are certified copies.
What Mexican Spousal Sponsorship Application Support Includes
A written agreement fixes the scope of our work. For a Mexican partner, it usually covers these steps.
01
Review eligibility and choose the application route
Review both partners’ circumstances, previous sponsorships and immigration history. Compare inland and outland options, including how travel plans affect the choice.
02
Organize your relationship evidence
Build a clear relationship timeline using records of your life together. Identify missing periods and explain circumstances the documents do not show.
03
Prepare forms and supporting documents
Prepare forms such as IMM 1344 and IMM 5532. Use our spousal sponsorship document checklist to organize your records. Check civil records, translations and country-specific document requirements.
04
Check dates and details across the file
Compare relationship dates with address histories, travel records and supporting documents. Resolve differences before they become conflicting answers in your application.
05
Prepare the application for submission
Review the completed application with you and check the required signatures and uploads. You personally complete the declarations IRCC requires you to sign.
06
Handle agreed follow-up with IRCC
Understand document requests and prepare responses within their deadlines. Interview preparation or additional applications can be discussed when relevant to your file.

Document issues we check before submission
IRCC's Mexico instructions set a specific form for civil records. We check form as well as content.
Our spousal sponsorship document checklist covers the requirements every file shares.
An acta copied instead of certified
IRCC's Mexico instructions call for copies certified by the issuing office, with signature and seal. We confirm each record carries both.
Fingerprints sent to the visa office
IRCC will not accept police certificate documents mailed straight to its Mexico City office. They go through the FGR or a visa application centre.
A divorce with only the court order
Without the Registro Civil divorce certificate, the prior marriage looks unfinished. We request the missing record before filing.
Mexican Documents at a Glance
Each row follows IRCC's current Mexico guidance. Confirm the final list in your own checklist before ordering records.
| Document | Where it comes from | Authentication | Translation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marriage certificate (acta de matrimonio) | The Registro Civil office that registered the marriage | Government-certified true copy, signed and sealed | Needed from Spanish into English or French |
| Divorce records, if married before | Registro Civil divorce certificate and the family judge's court order | Government-certified true copies of both | Needed from Spanish into English or French |
| Birth certificates | Registro Civil | Government-certified true copies | Needed from Spanish into English or French |
| Police certificate (Constancia de datos registrales) | Fiscalía General de la República, after IRCC sends a request letter | Not included with the application; fingerprints go through the FGR or a VAC | Translated and certified when obtained through the FGR |
Mexican Spousal Sponsorship Fees and Processing Times
Government fees are identical whatever your partner's nationality. The total for a spouse without children is $1,260, and biometrics add $85 when IRCC asks for them. Our spouse sponsorship fees guide lists each part.
| Government fee | Amount (CAD) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship and processing fees | $660 | Covers the sponsorship application and your partner's permanent residence processing |
| Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) | $600 | Due before your partner becomes a permanent resident; refunded if the application is withdrawn or refused |
| Biometrics | $85 | Per person if required; $170 maximum for a family applying together |
| Each dependent child | $180 | Added for every dependent child included in the application |
| Spouse-only total with biometrics | $1,345 | Sponsorship, processing, RPRF and one biometrics fee |
Inland, outland and Quebec applications have separate estimates. Check the official IRCC processing-times page when you are ready to file, since the figures change.
The Mexican police certificate step starts only after IRCC's letter arrives, so plan for it inside the processing period. Our professional fees appear on the fees page.
Clear fees before you retain us
Meet with us before deciding anything. A written agreement then records the professional fee and the Mexican records we will handle.
IRCC fees, the medical exam, translations and Registro Civil charges are not part of our fee. Professional prices are published before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get my marriage certificate from Mexico?
Request it from the Registro Civil office that registered your marriage, in the state where it took place. For IRCC, ask for a government-certified true copy that the issuing office has signed and sealed. A plain photocopy does not meet IRCC's Mexico instructions. Add a complete English or French translation, including the stamps and seals.
Am I legally married if I got married in Mexico?
For Canadian immigration, the question is whether the marriage was legally registered in Mexico. A Registro Civil marriage certificate shows that; a religious ceremony certificate alone does not. Canada usually recognizes a marriage legally performed abroad, with no need to register it here. IRCC still wants the certified Registro Civil copy.
What is required to enter Canada from Mexico?
Mexican citizens need a valid passport and, in most cases, a visitor visa. Some can use an electronic travel authorization instead, but only when flying and meeting IRCC's conditions. Arriving by land or sea still requires a visa. A sponsorship in process does not replace the visa or eTA for a visit.
Is Canada allowing Mexican immigrants?
Yes. A Mexican partner can be sponsored under the same rules as any other nationality. The Mexico-specific differences are practical: civil records must be government-certified copies, and the police certificate is requested by IRCC after you apply. Planning for both from the start keeps the file complete.
How do I get a police clearance certificate for Canadian immigration?
Each country has its own process, and IRCC publishes instructions for every one. For Mexico, you do not include the certificate with your application. IRCC sends a file number and request letter after you apply. You then apply through the FGR, or send fingerprints and photos through a visa application centre.
