Who this service is for
Your partner may live in Chișinău or elsewhere in Moldova, or work in another European country. Some couples already share a home in Canada.
Determine which relationship category fits you. New sponsors will find the broader process in our spousal sponsorship in Canada guide.
Sponsors with a partner in Moldova
The Family Class, filed from outside Canada, suits most couples here. We plan the cazier judiciar and civil records around your partner's location.
Partners already living in Canada
A partner here with valid status may be able to apply inland. We walk through inland and outland sponsorship with you first.
Common-law couples
If you have lived together for 12 months in a row, sponsorship as common-law partners may fit. We check the proof of shared living.
What Moldovan Spousal Sponsorship Application Support Includes
The agreement you sign lists our work. For a Moldovan partner, that usually means the steps below.
01
Review eligibility and choose the application route
Review both partners’ circumstances, previous sponsorships and immigration history. Compare inland and outland options, including how travel plans affect the choice.
02
Organize your relationship evidence
Build a clear relationship timeline using records of your life together. Identify missing periods and explain circumstances the documents do not show.
03
Prepare forms and supporting documents
Prepare forms such as IMM 1344 and IMM 5532. Use our spousal sponsorship document checklist to organize your records. Check civil records, translations and country-specific document requirements.
04
Check dates and details across the file
Compare relationship dates with address histories, travel records and supporting documents. Resolve differences before they become conflicting answers in your application.
05
Prepare the application for submission
Review the completed application with you and check the required signatures and uploads. You personally complete the declarations IRCC requires you to sign.
06
Handle agreed follow-up with IRCC
Understand document requests and prepare responses within their deadlines. Interview preparation or additional applications can be discussed when relevant to your file.

Document issues we check before submission
A Moldovan file may rely on documents collected by someone else in Moldova. We check each handover step.
Documents needed in every file are covered by our spousal sponsorship document checklist.
A power of attorney that was not notarized
Collecting a cazier judiciar for someone else requires a notarized power of attorney. We check it before your representative goes.
A translation that misses the language switch
Some Moldovan records mix Romanian and Russian text. The translation must cover every part, including stamps.
An outdated certificate for a current resident
If your partner lives in Moldova, the certificate must be no older than six months at submission. We time the request.

Moldovan Spousal Sponsorship Fees and Processing Times
A Moldovan partner pays the same IRCC fees as anyone. Government fees for sponsoring a spouse with no children are $1,260, and biometrics cost $85 if asked for. Our spouse sponsorship fees guide goes line by line.
| Government fee | Amount (CAD) | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsorship and processing fees | $660 | Covers the sponsorship application and your partner's permanent residence processing |
| Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) | $600 | Due before your partner becomes a permanent resident; refunded if the application is withdrawn or refused |
| Biometrics | $85 | Per person if required; $170 maximum for a family applying together |
| Each dependent child | $180 | Added for every dependent child included in the application |
| Spouse-only total with biometrics | $1,345 | Sponsorship, processing, RPRF and one biometrics fee |
IRCC gives inland, outland and Quebec files their own estimates, updated regularly. Consult the processing-times tool before you commit to travel or work dates.
Collection by a representative in Moldova adds a step, so we plan it early. Our professional fees are published on the fees page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Canada?
Yes. Moldova's foreign ministry lists an Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Canada, located in Ottawa. For a sponsorship, it matters for the police certificate. IRCC's Moldova page says applicants abroad apply through their nearest Moldovan embassy's consular section. They include a copy of the passport photo page.
Do Canadians need a visa to go to Moldova?
Global Affairs Canada lists no visa requirement for tourist stays of up to 90 days in any six-month period. Check the page before each trip. Trips together also serve as relationship evidence, so keep tickets and stamps. Their dates should match what you report on IMM 5532.
Is it safe to go to Moldova now?
Global Affairs Canada advises a high degree of caution in Moldova because of the war in Ukraine and possible unrest. It advises against non-essential travel to Transnistria, where consular help is limited. If safety concerns limit visits, meetings elsewhere can still be documented as relationship evidence.
Can I sponsor my common-law partner in Canada?
Yes, if you have lived together continuously for at least 12 months with only short absences. IRCC treats a common-law partner much like a spouse, but the proof differs. You show shared living through leases, joint bills and correspondence rather than a marriage certificate. A Moldovan partner still needs the Moldovan police certificate.
How to get a police clearance certificate from Canada?
For a sponsorship, a Canadian certificate is usually not needed, because IRCC does not ask for certificates covering time in Canada. Sponsors who are citizens or permanent residents submit none. A Moldovan partner living here still needs the Moldovan certificate. They can request it through the embassy or online, with a representative in Moldova collecting it.
