Immigration in Greater Sudbury: What You Need to Know

Greater Sudbury is the largest city in northeastern Ontario, located roughly 400 kilometres north of Toronto. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 166,004 in the City of Greater Sudbury, with about 7% of residents born outside Canada, per Statistics Canada.

Sudbury has a long-standing Francophone population, with roughly one-quarter of residents reporting French as a first language. This makes Francophone immigration pathways and bilingual employer recruitment particularly relevant. The city is also part of IRCC's Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.

Top source countries for recent immigrants include India, the Philippines, France, and the United Kingdom. The growing South Asian and Filipino communities reflect a broader trend in northern Ontario settlement.

Mining is the cornerstone of Sudbury's economy. Vale's Sudbury operations, Glencore's Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, and a deep network of mining service companies (such as Cementation Canada, Dumas Mining, and Boart Longyear) employ thousands of workers, per the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation. Health Sciences North is the city's largest hospital network and a major employer of internationally trained health professionals.

Laurentian University and Cambrian College both enroll international students. College Boreal serves the Francophone student population, per Collège Boréal.

Immigration Services for Greater Sudbury Residents

Sudbury's mining base, growing newcomer population, and bilingual labour market shape the services we handle most often.

OINP Pathways and Express Entry. The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Employer Job Offer streams (Foreign Worker, International Student, In-Demand Skills) are particularly relevant for Sudbury employers in mining, healthcare, and skilled trades. The Human Capital Priorities stream draws from Express Entry candidates with Ontario ties.

Work Permits. Sudbury mining and service companies regularly hire foreign workers for skilled trades and engineering roles when no qualified Canadian applicant is available. An employer-specific work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program typically requires an approved LMIA from ESDC. Intra-company transfers and Francophone Mobility are common LMIA-exempt streams.

Spousal Sponsorship. Sudbury residents who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor a spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for permanent residence. Spousal sponsorship requires complete relationship evidence, the sponsor's financial records, identity documents, and consistent dates throughout the file.

Express Entry. Sudbury workers and international graduates may qualify under the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, or Federal Skilled Trades programs through Express Entry. Strong French-language scores add CRS points and qualify candidates for IRCC's category-based French-language draws.

Study Permits and PGWPs. International students at Laurentian University, Cambrian College, or Collège Boréal need a valid study permit. Graduates of eligible programs can apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. Ontario applications now require a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) where applicable.

Document Services. We assist Sudbury clients with PR card renewal, landing document replacement, notary public services, and apostille services.

How We Serve Clients in Greater Sudbury

Sudbury is roughly four hours north of our Toronto office. Rather than asking you to drive that distance, we built our practice around virtual delivery. Initial consultations, document collection, application preparation, and follow-up all happen through secure video and email. Reach us toll-free at 1-888-636-2122.

Our Toronto and North York offices are available if you happen to visit the GTA, by appointment only. The full process follows a documented method: eligibility assessment, document checklist, form completion, licensed-consultant review, submission to IRCC, and ongoing tracking. Fees are transparent and set in a Legal Services Agreement before any work begins. The full schedule is on the legal fees page.

Why Choose Mirzoyan Immigration

Both Narek and Vahe Mirzoyan hold dual credentials as RCICs and LSO-licensed paralegals. This combination is uncommon among Canadian immigration consultants. You can verify their standing on the CICC public register and the LSO directory. Every client works one-on-one with a single consultant from initial call through final decision. We do not hand files off to unlicensed assistants.

Our fees are set in a Legal Services Agreement signed before work begins. There are no hourly billing surprises. Our related notary practice has earned over 250 five-star Google reviews, a record that reflects the service standard we bring to every immigration file. Narek immigrated to Canada himself, and that lived experience shapes how we explain the process to clients. Together, the team carries more than 20 years of combined immigration experience. We work in English, Russian, and Armenian.
